Welcome to my space! I wouldn't call this page an offramp on the I.way, more of a sign by the side of the road. The first version was written in 1994 or so, long before the Internet was cool. That was one employer and five moves ago.

I work for Network & Academic Computing Services at UC Irvine .

Piecework

	Xserve - Apple's 2009 Xserve is that rare upgrade that delivers on all fronts: this server is undeniably faster than the previous generation, uses less power, and exudes less heat. That combination doesn’t happen very often.
	Xserve - Apple's rackmount server now sports Intel quad-core Xeon processors inside its slim 1U package. The 2008 Edition of the Xserve has powerful options, but deploying the device into your network should be carefully planned.
	Daylight Saving Time May Bit the Out of Date - The Y2K7 problem hits Macs running 10.3 Panther and earlier.
	Xserve - Quad Xeon 64-bit server offers better performance and new capabilities, but some wrinkles too.
	Sonos Digital Music System - A whole-house music distribution solution masquerading as a digital music player.

People in the life of Andrew

Shawn Barge - A former roommate, the estimable Mr. Barge and I roomed together for four years. Having met in the dorms, our introduction went something like this: "My name's Shawn. I'm a mechanical engineering major, I'm from Redlands." "Hey, what room are you in?" "Uh, 102D." "You're my roommate!" Shawn enjoys dismantling his Nissan 300ZX on a regular basis.

Bob Cassidy - Bob manages the Undergraduate Student Affairs office at UCI's Henry Samueli School of Engineering . I play poker with Bob. Bob is married to Suzi. Their son Andrew was born on January 19, 1998, and Erin Maille joined the clan on January 14, 2001.

Fab Four - In high school I hung out with Ian Cunningham , Olin Dirks and Sam Gechter . We were all fans of the Beatles, hence our name. At last count, Olin is working for the Union Pacific Railroad ; Sam is the Technology Associate at the Hillel International Center; Ian is working in real estate in San Diego.

The Family :

	Cynthia D. Mock Laurence - My partner in all things that matter. A fellow addict of the arts, we have storage issues with books and music. She's also addicted to travel and has a curious love for kitchen gadgetry.
	David Robert Laurence - That's my boy.
	Rachel Katherine Laurence - That's my girl.
	Marilyn Laurence - Ma. Public Relations Officer for San Diego Superior Court. She recently fulfilled a lifelong dream and took a vacation to Italy.
	Peter Laurence - My elder brother, Peter listens to the blues and chases a lifelong dream of being a professional English/Spanish translater. He married the lovely Michelle on March 2, 1996.
	Robert P. Laurence - My father, aka the Old Man. Formerly the rock'n'roll critic for the San Diego Union-Tribune, he's been the television critic since 1985. My long-distance cycling and taste for expensive stereo equipment are his fault.

Tammy Luckett (nee Lybrand) - Sweetie. Tammy and I have been great friends since high school - a friendship which confuses everyone but us. She recently returned from England where she obtained a MSc in Human Resources Management at the University of Surrey.

Peter Schnack - Poker playing, sailing friend.

Johnathon Suker - Poker playing, pool shooting, beer drinking friend. He works at the very cool TiVo. I knew his wife Tonya in high school, and take credit for introducing them. Sarah Elizabeth came into the world on July 18, 2002, and her brother Ethan John Finnian joined on July 27 2006.

Prisoner of Rock 'n Roll

I'm a music junkie in general, and a Bruce Springsteen fan to a frightening degree. It's an affliction which grows with each bootleg and continues to mystify those around me.Cynthia and I saw 16 shows on the 1999/2000 tour, including a pilgrimage to the New Jersey Meadowlands.

Cycling

I've been doing long-distance bicycle tours for years. Lately that's fallen off quite a bit, but I hope to fix that soon.

RAGBRAI - Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. A week-long, rolling party with 10,000 of your closest friends. You've never seen anything like it. I've been twice (RAGBRAI XIII and XIX), and I can't wait to go again.
